Our Women in Leadership Series features some of our own Valeyo leaders and explores some the challenges, opportunities and moments and inspiration of women working in the technology & insurance industry. Watch the full video above or read Nicole’s answers below.

1. When you began your career, what role did you envision for yourself?

Early on in my career I didn’t have a specific title I had envisioned for myself, however I did see myself as leader of people. The people on my team are diversified, like-minded, resourceful SMART individuals who can just come together and be successful together. That’s what I envisioned for myself.

2. What would you describe is important or should be important to you as a leader?

I would say the importance of having confidence in yourself is what makes you a great leader. Being optimistic while still being aware of the risks that are involved and making these critical choices along the journey will set you up for the ability to succeed in the workplace. And ultimately shared success with your team.

3. Being a female leader in a historically male-dominated field, what’s something you’ve learned along the way?

Something I have learned along the way is that your success is a journey, not a destination. I think the most important aspect to remember along your journey is surround yourself with others who have the same vision as you and have some fun along way. Most importantly, stay humble.

4. What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Advice I would give to the next generation of female leaders is to actually set individual goals aside for yourself, they do help you to remain focused. Try to surround yourself with people of diverse experience or culture and really different approaches to life in general. Be resourceful and have a willingness to learn from others.
